Umang launches "Donate a Lunch" event, a new fund-raising initiative.
About 100 million people in India are destitute elderly people who are homeless and have no means to
earn their living. Umang's "Donate a Lunch" program aims to leverage financial contributions from
enthusiastic people all over the world to help provide sustenance to these underprivileged people.
Umang has developed and executed a low-cost food camp model named "Kshetra" which has been providing
sustenance to 50 homeless people everyday in Northern India in the village of Goverdhan, U.P. for
the past five years. Umang started out by serving 15 people at $50/person/year and drove involvement
and ownership among local community to improve the cost structure to the point that it now serves
50 people at $30/person/year. Umang plans to leverage the success of "Kshetra" as a low-cost food camp
model to implement it in other rural regions of India.
"Donate a lunch" is a fund-raising event to support Umang's food-camp objectives. The event runs from
Sept 22nd to Nov 15th and peaks on October 2nd in observance of 137th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
You can be a part of this event by donating funds equivalent to your lunch towards this good cause.
An average lunch in US costs around $7. By donating your lunch, you’d be feeding one underprivileged
for 85 days or three underprivileged for a month. You could also donate $30 to support one person for
the entire year. Your small contribution is of utmost value for the people receiving the sustenance.
